Well, I just finished reading the Elfen lied manga and I want to say, wow. It was a very powerful and exciting anime, and I'm just really sad that it had to end. I wish I could continue reading it, but unfortunately all good things must come to an end. It was one of the best manga's I've ever read, and if you haven't read it yet then I suggest you do so, you wont regret it, trust me. There is a short 13 episode anime based off the manga and that was pretty good as well, but it nowhere compares to the manga. The anime only covers about the first 50 chapters of the manga and there are a ton is differences between them, especially since the anime was created before the manga was even finished. I would say that the anime had more symbolism and things that made you think that the manga just didn't offer, but I still prefer the longer and more complete manga over the anime.
If you haven't read the manga or even seen the anime, I recommened not reading the next portion, especially if plan to in the future, because it has a lot of spoilers and things that you may want to discover on your own. This is just for those have read it before or those who don't wish to read it, but still want to give there input. So thank you and here it goes.
Well, time to get to the real topic of this journal. The other day when I was reading the final chapters of the manga, some things really bothered me. I've been trying to get input from other people on what they thought of the ending and what it was all suppose to mean, but it isn't going so well, so I thought I'd turn to you guys. To start wtf was up with Bandou coming back alive. Seriously He was cut in half by Lucy and both is arms were gone, I don't know about you, but I don't know a single person that could possibly survive that. It may be a happy ending for Mayu, but I would have been perfectly satisfied with leaving her cleaning the beach and say "I will never forget you" Or something like that.
Then there is the guy with the glasses, I don't remember his name, but he is the guy who was talking to Anna at the end. I don't really know what the point of keeping him alive was, he is such a minor character and had no major parts in the manga other then trying to capture Lucy, so why was he kept alive. I thought the other Diclonius killed him, didn't it show him crying then a shot of blood splatter or something. To me that mean he was dead, or at least wounded, but I didn't see a scratch on him other than the broken glasses, so that just aggravates me. Also in the last chapter it showed him with breast... Was he a she the entire time... if so, holy shit, I seriously thought that that was a guy.
As for Anna I didn't think much of her other than a tool to get Lucy, so I guess I'm happy that she was able to go back to normal and live a normal live... that is if she can make it out of the sunken island somehow. So congratulations Anna live long and peacefully.
Then there is the scene where Nana is with "Papa" and she says "would you like to have babies with Nana." There are so many things wrong with that right there. Besides that fact that I thought silpelits couldn't reproduce, if that is the case then why is Nana mentioning that in the first place. I was glad that Kurama said no and that they were going to continue there father daughter relationship, but I am still a bit confused about the reproducing thing and if someone could clear that up for me that would be great.
As a die hard Lucy x Kouta it really pissed me off in the end when Yuka was all like "Don't leave me and go somewhere else" and Kouta said "I wont." And I was extremely pissed when near the end he had a daughter and of course we all know that Yuka is the mother. For Christs sake, there cousins, when will the inbreeding stop, geez, I swear. Even earlier in the manga I could have sworn that Kouta's sister was trying to get together with him as well. It might have just been me, but that was how it looked. If one of you has a different perspective please let me know.
Omg when Lucy died I was so sad. From the very start when Lucy (Kaede) said "if I even end up killing people, then please kill me" I knew that Kouta would have to kill her. But I tried to put those thoughts aside seeing as I didn't want Lucy to die. She had been through so much hardships, if anybody in the entire manga deserved to be happy it was her. For the last three chapters, I just couldn't stop crying. I was relieved that I was reading it really late at night when no one else could see me balling my eyes out. I'm not usually a sappy person and I hardly ever cry, but there was just something about this manga that got me going. I began to cheer up again when I saw all the pictures of Kouta waiting through rain and shine for Lucy to come back, even though he knew that she wouldn't, it just gave me a heart warming sensation. But then when Kouta read the note from Lucy (kaede), I couldn't hold back anymore and I had to run to the bathroom to cry into a towel to hide my sobs, so that no one else would hear them.
The final thing that I will discuss is the reincarnation thing. It really annoyed me that both Lucy and Nyu were reincarnated into twin sisters. Yes it makes sense that that would happen, but the fact that they know about kouta and the shrine, means that they have Lucy/Nyu's memories, since Diclonius can pass there memories down, but that just made me even madder since now Kouta and Nyu/Lucy can't be together again. They can't be childhood friends, they can't live together, and they can't get married. All the things that I really wanted to happen didn't and that really angered me. I would have been completely satisfied if all Kouta saw was an illusion/ the spirit of Lucy and it said "I love you Kouta" and he said "I love you" back, but no, she had to be reincarnated into a life that is forever seperated from Kouta. Besides Lucy didn't deserve to die. All the people who Lucy killed very much deserved there fate... well almost all of them. There were a few innocent people: Like the festival people, the people in the house she kill so she had somewhere to sleep, Kurama's secretary (though that one I thought Kuraman deserved, since he ended up kill Lucy's friend and all he said was, if you would have given yourself up earlier it wouldn't have happened. It's like he was blaming her completely for the girls death), and a few other people. All the facility workers, deserved there fate; each and every one of them. They were doing inhumane things to all those girls (silpelits) just because they had horns and the "vectors". Besides there is no proof that Diclonius naturally kill humans. Ever time a Diclonius ended up killing people it was because of something the people did to them. There was never an incident that proved that a loved and perfectly happy Diclonius child would unjustifiably kill people and I think that Nana is a good example of that.
Well thank you for listening to my rant and Please comment on your thoughts about the anime, the manga or whatever. Please no "OMG I love Elfen lied" I feel that that is just a waste of my time and effort. I took all this time to share my feelings and love of thing manga to you, and all you can say it that. It makes be feel that I did all of this for nothing and that that time could have been spent doing something more important. Thank you and please comment
